cocktail glasses shimmer like your eyes
but don't make me feel
nearly as drunk
I have been told
I am my father's only flaw
Every other creature,
every foot, feather, beak, claw
perfect in his eyes, can do no wrong
but to gain approval I must best them all
move the mountains and build walls
remain true to a son that won't show or shine
and pray I don't get left behind
and even when my father sent to me
a perfect son
he would birth him in a stable, hay and sheep
and goats and hooves and utters and...
far away from evil,
like me.
